Someone lost a few screws!

Jackson went to the doctor on Wednesday and was able to ditch the boot for a plastic aircast that he wears inside his regular shoes. The Doc told Jackson that he could have two screws out now and the rest of the hardware out in a year (He will probably hold off on the majority of the hardware so that he can go on his mission in a year). Jackson was anxious to get the screws out as soon as possible so the Doc made special arrangements to meet us at the clinic this morning before it opened and he would do the deed.

We met the Doc at 6:30'ish at the clinic. Jackson had taken a pain pill before we left home. The Doc got him set up in the surgery room and numbed the skin where he would make the incisions. While the numbing was setting in he gathered everything he would need (he was a one-man show).

He set the x-ray machine up and found the screws he was going to remove and then very carefully made the incision and loosened the screws . . . .

then he got out the screwdriver and finished removing the screws. He took a couple of stitches, wrapped his leg and cleaned the screws for Jackson to keep. As you can see - they are just ordinary screws and are about 1 1/2 inches long.
Jackson did well through the whole procedure and didn't make a sound. He said afterwards that he could feel the screws coming out, especially as they went through the tissue between the two bones. He has had a semi-miserable day today but is headed for a speedy recovery.
